Our German Heritage

Many of the German Ancestors came with great dreams
and plans. Our Great-great Grandfather described why he came to America. "I
felt the irresistable impulse to do something really and truly valuable for
the general good. But where and how? The fatherland was closed to me. Where
then? TO AMERICA the ideals of which I have dreamed and for which I have
fought, I shall find there. If not fully realized, but hopefully struggling
for full realization. In that struggle I shall perhaps be able to take part.
It is a new world, a free world, a world of ideas and aims. In that world
there is for me a NEW HOME."
Our anchestors also brought with them their love of music, especially
symphony orchestras, glee clubs and band concerts and the polka all of which
grew infectious. Another German custom, the Christmas tree, was universally
welcomed and became an American institution.
